San Poncho, Nayarit Mexico (AKA San Francisco)

Located on a 1 kilometer long white sandy beach surrounded by the lush jungle foliage, along the southern edge of the Sierra Madre mountains. San Francisco received its name from the Spanish explorer Captain Francisco Cortes de San Buenaventura, but locals and frequent visitors refer to it as San Poncho..

San Francisco (San Poncho) has all the comfort amenities that we come to count on but still retains that rustic old Mexico feel, where the pace is slow, people still stop to chat, it’s extremely friendly and feels completely safe.

This town is recognized as the cultural heart of the Riviera Nayarit. San Poncho’s community center puts on a Children’s Circus, Music and Art festivals San Poncho also has a world class Polo club, that offers lessons and has a topnotch resort, a perfect place to book your wedding, or your next group retreat. www.LaPatrona.com

The short San Poncho Malecon starts at the end of the main street in town, it’s lined with cultural centers, galleries, small restaurants and traditional bakeries where you’re sure to find something that sparks your interest.

One of the main attractions to San Poncho (San Francisco) is the Quite beach, 1 km of white flat sandy beach, it’s the perfect place to satisfy your search for a restful, relaxing place to let all your worries drift away. There is no need to leave the beach once you’re there, rent an umbrella, order your drinks, or walk up to one of the many beach front restaurants.

If your worried about finding accommodations in San Poncho don’t be. Accommodations in San Poncho are still plentiful, hotels, small resorts and lots of Airbnb’s. We picked a quaint place about 3km’s from the center of town, a gated property with it’s own semi private beach
